Conrado del Campo composed his Quartet No. 4, "El Cristo de la Vega" in 1906. Premiered a year later, this quartet with narrator is actually a melodrama based on the poem A buen juez, mejor testigo, by José Zorrilla. The picturesque scenes of this Toledan legend that narrates a miraculous and edifying event are interspersed and superimposed on the music of Del Campo, who conceived here one of his most inspired creations.
