Gerardo Diego was a pioneer in the promotion of Skriabin in Spain. Already in 1921 he had performed some of his preludes at the Ateneo de Soria, as part of a "Curso de Historia de la música de piano", and in 1941 he dedicated a sonnet to him published in "Alondra de verdad". Among Spanish composers, Diego highlights the musical exuberance of Isaac Albéniz and the austerity of Manuel de Falla, with whom he maintained a long friendship and who inspired him several poems and conferences.
