On July 5, 1852, in Rochester, New York, Douglass gave one of his most famous speeches, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” He was addressing the Rochester Ladies’ Anti-Slavery Society. President Trump says his takeover of policing in Washington, D.C., will serve as an example of policies he hopes to enact in other major U.S. cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to a one-year trade truce after meeting in South Korea. China will postpone export controls on rare earth minerals, and the U.S. will lower its tariffs on Chinese goods. China also agreed to resume buying American soybeans.
