Già Professore Ordinario di Antropologia e responsabile del Museo di Antropologia dell'Università degli Studi di Bologna, docente di Paleontologia Umana nella Scuola di Specializzazione in Archeologia e attualmente professore della stessa Università. Sacerdote dell'Arcidiocesi di Bologna. Si è occupato di accrescimento, di polimorfismi genetici, di adattamento alle alte quote e di modernizzazione nel Kazakistan, di evoluzione.
